Modern business cards or Visiting (Calling) Cards, were created in China around 15th century. The function of Calling Cards was to announce the arrival of a visiting card owner to whomever he was visiting.
Visiting cards, originate from playing cards appeared and stably established in French court etiquette in the middle of 17th century. In 19th century calling cards were adopted by Europe and America from French, and were commonly used by gentlemen and ladies of middle and upper class.
